The Pelican Hill Resort, a $250,000,000 hotel and conference center complex, is located in the 10,000 acre Irvine Coast master planned community south of Los Angeles. The 1100 room resort is patterned after a terraced Mediterranean coastal hillside community and was conceived by Sudhakar Thakurdesai and Pradeep Tilaye of RTKL Los Angeles. All public areas were designed and developed by Mark Krukiel in collaboration with RTKL Los Angeles.
Building clusters are strategically placed to define thematic courtyards while maintaining ocean views. Individual court identity and character is created through landscape design, paving patterns and material selections. Mark Krukiel's architectural services included the refinement of the schematic project massing and imaging concepts and design development of all public areas including: exterior massing of the lobby "villa" and the curvilinear links to hotel - arrival court and loggia design - grand stair designs - all exterior facade design and development - fitness center/ spa design and massing - all restaurant and bar design - coordination with hotel room plans and layouts - mechanical and structural coordination - 1/8" scale physical model development of overall project - implementation of CADD drawings and technicians - design development client presentations and approvals - production of all design development documents.
